and encapsulate it in one word.”

The Flower Dialogues started as an artistic methodology for emotional
construction through sensorial, somatic, imaginative, and linguistic
affective engagement with flowers and costume, leading to creative performative improvisation and creation.
It is grounded in the constructivist theories of emotion by Lisa Feldman Barrett and Sara Ahmed. This methodologies rises awareness on how emotions are constructed and circulate between bod(ies) and objects.
Through the collaboration with musicians and dancers, the performers explore their affected bodies throught their medium, creating an ever renovating performance, and grasping their subjective experience of emotion

Each participant of the Flower Dialogues Methodology documents their experience on a worksheet, creating an embodied archive of the somatic experience and the starting point of an emotional embodied approach on costume creation and performance.
Each encounter, the performer becomes the constructor of a new word corresponding to the experience of the encounter, increasing the constructor’s emotional granularity. Throughout the creative development of the Flower Dialogues, 32 new emotion concepts were collectively constructed.
“The Flower Dialogues did not arrive fully formed.
They developed
through a process of trial and error, analyzing each step of the
research.
Simultaneously, in each encounter,
the methodology was
at its core performative. [...]
it took multiple sessions to be corrected
to become the performance it is.”
