RESEARCH

Writing, for me, is my first vulnerable step of making, going from personal reflections, poetry and essays. My writing practice moves and shifts between poetical narratives to non-fiction, mainly remaining on the personal subjectivity, while also channeling dense theoretical and socio-cultural critiques.  Always evolving, I seek to approach this writing in the similar way I approach costumes, from a practice-based experience while always introducing and questioning the theory it forms the thought process.

Having graduated in Literature from High School (Baccalauréat Littéraire, 2018, Lycée la Condamine, Quito, EC), specialized in Spanish Literature, I quickly developed and cherished writing as a first instance of understanding my thoughts and sublimate my critical reflections of our contemporary age. With a Bachelor in Graphic Design (Université de Strasbourg, 2021, Strasbourg, FR), I seek to integrate the support on the writing as a source of knowledge that supports the writing.

Currently, my writings touches diverse territories of knowledge, mainly costume, dance, emotion, alexithymia, performance, somatics and aesthetics, constanlty intersected and rhizomically linked to neurodiversity, queer theory, decolonial posture, and the crossing of epistemic position of my Latin American migrant body studying and working with Western institutions. These encounters are constant inspirations and frustrations from where my writing emerges.

My writing style, for the moment, is very dense and eagerly unfolds the multiple facets of the subject, a mirros of my neurodiverse perspective and experience as an alexithymic and hyperactive brain.

My writing asserted itself as written-research starting with my Master Thesis Costumbradura en un Tiempo Alexitímico*, where I question how costume, as a somatico-embodied practice, acts as an invitation for emotional awareness amidst an Alexithymic Period? Divided in three chapters, I unfold the epistemologies on emotion, alexithymia and costume that led me to formulate and establish my artistic practice as a reflection that improves and renders visible emotional granularity.
